Delivering GT action during FIA ETRC weekend at Slovakia Ring
The GT Cup Series once again delivered GT racing presence at Slovakia Ring, running as part of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship (ETRC) weekend. The event formed one of the highlights of the weekend’s multi-category motorsport programme, combining truck racing spectacle with GT, LMP3, F4 and touring car competition.
Jesse Krohn headlines Racing Trevor entry with iconic BMW M8 GTE return
One of the key highlights of the weekend was the appearance of BMW factory driver Jesse Krohn, who joined Racing Trevor for a special outing in the legendary BMW M8 GTE.
The car represents one of BMW’s most successful modern endurance racing GT machines, developed for the GTLM category in IMSA and FIA WEC competition. The M8 GTE powered BMW Team RLL to a class victory at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2020, with Krohn playing a decisive role as part of the winning factory lineup.
At Slovakia Ring, the combination of Krohn’s factory-level experience and the iconic GT endurance platform brought a unique highlight to the GT Cup Series entry list and attracted significant attention from fans and competitors alike.
Danish LMP3 presence strengthened by Mads K. Larsen
The LMP3 category received an additional boost with the entry of Danish driver Mads K. Larsen, who joined the field for the Slovakia Ring event.
Known from the European endurance racing scene, Larsen brought professional prototype experience into the LMP3 category, increasing the competitiveness of the field and adding another international dimension to the GT Cup Series weekend.
Antal Zsigo returns to home circuit after NLS campaign
Local interest was also high with the return of the driver Antal Zsigo, who rejoined the GT Cup Series at his home venue following his recent participation in the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS).
Formerly associated with Racing Trevor, he has since established his own racing structure and continues to develop his endurance racing programme across Europe. His one-off appearance at Slovakia Ring added a strong home story element to the weekend.
Konopka family team maintains traditional multi-class presence
As traditionally seen in the GT Cup Series paddock, the entry list at Slovakia Ring would not have been complete without the presence of the well-known Konopka family team led by Miro Konopka.
Competing with both Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo (GT3) and Ligier JS P320 (LMP3) machinery, the team once again fielded a multi-class effort across the weekend.
In the LMP3 category, father and son duo saw Mato Konopka join his father in the Ligier programme, continuing the family’s established endurance racing tradition. In the GT3 category, Adam Konopka shared driving duties with experienced driver Zdeno Mikulasko in the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo entry.
The team once again demonstrated its characteristic presence across both prototype and GT fields, reinforcing its long-standing role in Endurance racing.
EXPRES AUTO Racing makes GT4 debut with Mercedes-AMG entry
A new addition to the GT Cup Series paddock made its debut appearance at Slovakia Ring as Czech outfit EXPRES AUTO Racing entered the GT4 category with a Mercedes-AMG GT4, marking its first steps into the GT4 environment.
The team, which has recently transitioned from touring car racing into GT competition, fielded a three-driver lineup consisting of Czech drivers Vít Smejkal, Patrik Kirov, and Roman Nováček.
The trio shared driving duties throughout the endurance format race, using the weekend as a key learning platform for both drivers and team as they adapt to the Mercedes-AMG GT4 machinery and the demands of GT racing within the GT Cup Series structure.
The GT Cup Series formed an integral part of the Slovakia Ring race weekend, which also featured FIA ETRC, FIA F4, and touring car categories. The combined format created a full motorsport festival atmosphere, attracting a large crowd and providing continuous on-track action across all sessions.
The Slovakia Ring once again proved to be a demanding and rewarding venue for GT racing, with its fast layout and technical sections producing close competition and multiple overtaking opportunities.
