GT CUP SERIES 2026, RACE WEEKEND 1, RED BULL RING, ENDURANCE RACE: DAY 1 REPORT
The opening race of the GT CUP SERIES ’26 at Austria’s Red Bull Ring circuit delivered a thrilling battle under beautiful spring weather, featuring drivers from the Austrian GT Championship. The one-hour endurance race was filled with duels between cars from various Grand Turismo categories and sports prototypes.
In the overall standings, local driver Marius Aigner (KTM X-BOW, MZR Motorsport Zentrum Ried) came out on top. Second place went to Slovakian Miro Konopka (Ligier JS 320, ARC Bratislava), and the Czech crew of Ondřej Rokos and Petr Lisa (Mercedes AMG GT2, RTR Projects) crossed the finish line in third.
They were also the best of all GT cars and won the GTX category. The best GT3 driver was Czech Denis Waszek, who finished fourth overall (BMW M4 GT3, Trevor Racing).
Miro Konopka started from pole position but dropped several places and was also given a drive-through penalty by the jury because, in their view, he did not have the correct starting position. During the chase, when he was already right behind leader Aigner, he unfortunately collided with one of the slower KTM cars in the final corner, so his chance at an overall victory was gone.
Twenty-three cars started the race, and over thirty competitors from the GT Cup Series and the domestic Austrian GT Championship will take part in tomorrow’s two sprint races
