The Masaryk Circuit in Brno is currently undergoing a major renovation as part of preparations for the return of the MotoGP championship. The key phase of the work has been the replacement of the asphalt surface, which means that drivers of the F4 CEZ, TCR Eastern Europe, GT Cup, and Clio Cup series can look forward to racing on a completely new track surface during the Masaryk Racing Days in September.

The resurfacing process began with a detailed scan of the track, followed by milling work during which 82,000 square meters of old asphalt were removed to a depth of 65 millimeters over the course of five days. Maximum precision was maintained even during milling, as global circuit standards are extremely strict — surface irregularities must not exceed 2 millimeters over a distance of 4 meters.

After milling, pavers moved onto the track to lay down the first 25-millimeter layer of asphalt. The final 40-millimeter layer was applied during the first week of May. The entire process was closely supervised by specialists who monitored not only the flatness of the surface but also the placement of joints, ensuring they wont be within critical braking or cornering zones.

The pavers moved at a steady pace of 2.7 meters per minute and were only stopped at predetermined locations at the end of each day.

The new surface will offer exceptionally high grip. A special type of bitumen, developed specifically for racing circuits, was used. While regular roads are designed to handle heavy traffic, race tracks face extreme lateral stresses in corners — which calls for a completely different material and significantly higher quality.
