Dennis Waszek from the GT2 Motorsport team launched his 2025 season at the Red Bull Ring in the GT Cup Series, returning behind the wheel of his familiar Lamborghini Super Trofeo. However, this time he made a notable switch—competing in the GTX category instead of GTC.

Waszek, a former GTC class champion, chose to modify his car and step up to the more powerful GTX class. What motivated the move?

“I saw that the GTX entry list at Red Bull was really strong. There were a lot of cars, which meant I could have some great battles,” he explained.

The transition to GTX allowed for some performance upgrades. “We removed the restrictors, which added a bit more horsepower. But there haven’t been many big changes yet—at least for now. We still have room to adjust things like the ride height, but we haven’t done that yet.”

Waszek delivered a strong performance in the first sprint race of the GT Cup weekend, finishing in third place. Still, he admitted to being surprised by the pace of the KTM X-BOW GT2 cars he shared the track with.

“I honestly didn’t expect them to be that fast. But that’s exactly why we made the move—to enjoy ourselves and to put on a good show for the fans. I did think we’d gain a bit more speed, though. It’s clear the other teams in GTX aren’t holding back with their KTM horsepower—maybe they’ve even got a bit more than we do. So I’ve had to make up the difference in other ways, and it worked out,” said Waszek who finished sixth.

The season opener also served as a valuable learning opportunity for Waszek and his team as they adapted to the new car setup.

“This was our very first weekend out with the car, so we were testing, getting familiar with everything. There’s definitely still room to improve, and we’ll be pushing to go faster, challenge the others more, and fight for that top spot.”
